Jehovah Jireh
Psalms 9:10 NLT
“Those who know Your name trust in You, for You, O Lord, do not abandon those who search for You.”
Knowing God in the Old Testament was very meaningful, God was given specific names in the Old Testament. Very specific names that gave great meaning to the Jewish people. We just know Him as God and we expect all the characteristics of God whenever we need them.
To give God specific names gives great meaning to who He is and what He meant to millions of people before us. Abraham saw God’s gracious provision in sparing Isaac’s life with a sacrificial ram, naming the location, “The Lord Will Provide” or “Jehovah-Jireh”(Genesis 22:14).
Abraham was not looking solely to past and present provisions; he was anticipating future actions from his Almighty Provider—and we can too. God’s ultimate provision points to Calvary, where He provided Jesus to pay the penalty of mankind’s sin, giving salvation by His death on the cross (John 3:16; Romans 8:32). Yet, Jehovah-Jireh did not stop there:
As Jesus ascended to the right hand of the Father, so did He provide His Holy Spirit to dwell in the hearts of His people (John 16:7). God, known as Jehovah Jireh, is the God that doesn’t just provide common things that we expect. He is the Jehovah-Jireh that provides perfect provision, even when we do not expect them.
Prayer:
Father, You always provide, what I need. Sometimes that includes things that bring me back in line. You are never late with Your provisions, and You provide amazing miracles just in time, exactly when I need them.
