In the Depths of the Sea
Micah 7:18-19 ESV
“Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over transgression for the remnant of his inheritance? He (God) does not retain his anger forever, because He delights in steadfast love. He will again have compassion on us; He will tread our iniquities underfoot. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.”
There was a song we used to sing as a child at church called, “Thank God my sins are gone.” Part of it went like this;
“You ask me why I’m happy so I’ll just tell you why, Because my sins are gone; And when I meet the scoffers who ask me where they are, I say, “My sins are gone.”
They’re underneath the blood on the cross of Calvary, As far removed as darkness is from dawn; In the sea of God’s forgetfulness, that’s good enough for me, Praise God, my sins are gone!”
Now our sins are definitely in the depths of the sea never to be remembered by God again, and I thank God for that. There is no sea of God’s forgetfulness but there is a place where God chooses not to remember our sins anymore. No one on earth does that for us, human nature will forgive but we rarely, completely forget.
Offenses are locked into our memories as a defense mechanism so we can be sure never to be hurt the same way again. But we serve a just God, the only true God, that does not hold a grudge, does not remain angry forever that forgives and pardons just as if we had nnever sinned. There is no one like our God!
Prayer:
Father, thank you for forgiving and FORGETTING on purpose, by choice because You are nothing like human nature and human nature unfortunately is nothing like You!
