Keeping Prayer Meaningful
Matthew 6:7-8 ESV
“And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”
Sometimes people try to find the right words when they are praying and that’s ok, just don’t over think prayer. God knows what we need but He wants us to come to Him like we do a dad. Yes, He has a perfect will but He is also very gracious.
Sometimes when we pray, we need to try to see this as a communication, more than a dialogue. When we asked our earthly fathers for something, we got either a yes, a no or a maybe, typically. Sometimes we got an explanation, sometimes we didn’t. But with God, there is a communication, we just don’t listen well sometimes.
Sometimes we hear Him deep down in our spirit, if we listen, sometimes we hear Him through our conscience, and then sometimes we go to His word and He speaks to us, but whatever method, He is speaking.
When we ask God, our prayers are answered, but sometimes we do not see the manifestation immediately. Sometimes God has to do a work in the asker. Sometimes God has to change our attitudes or circumstances before the request can be granted, but He still answers every prayer.
Prayer:
Father, thank You that You hear us, no matter how few of words we use or how many we use. As long as we are sincere, as long as we are fervent, You hear us.
