Have Mercy On Me O God!
Psalms 51:1-3
“Have mercy upon me, O God,
According to Your lovingkindness; According to the multitude of Your tender mercies, Blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions, And my sin is always before me.”
They say that confession is good for the soul but David said confession was good for a right relationship with God. Have you ever thought about what it takes to maintain a great relationship with God or even another person?
Love is good but it takes much more. It takes communication, openess, awareness of another person’s likes and dislikes and the ability to say I was wrong, I’m sorry and of course a whole lot more but that’s a good start.
Yes David was caught in sin by God and the prophet Nathan, but David knew he had sinned and immediately confessed. He wanted to maintain a right relationship with God.
Now God knows everything and He has seen everything, past, present, and future so we can’t hide anything from God. But God still wants us to confess. Sincere confession is an acknowledgment of the fact that we know what we did and we acknowledge we broke trust with God as His children.
Prayer:
Lord, forgive me of my shortcomings, the times I have failed You and hurt You. Have mercy on me O God according to Your unfailing love.
