Teaching Through Scripture

2 Timothy 3:14-15 ESV
“But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it  and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings,  which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.”

Paul knew Timothy had a great start in life and that he was taught concerning the scrolls of the Old Testament prophets. I like Paul’s analysis of what the ancient scrolls did for Timothy; “Which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.”

So, if I can borrow that line from Paul, reading and listening to the scriptures can make us wise, wise enough to know we need and want and desire Jesus more. Growing up for everyone is different. Some had great memories, some had memories of a struggle to survive, still others had a nightmare of a life as a child. Whatever life that we had, we made it through by the grace of God.

In my family it was a tough experience but their was no shortage of Christian influence in every part of our lives. We read the Bible at selected times, in the morning mostly, we went to church regularly, without fail, and we did a lot of open praying at home to teach us how to pray.

We were taught respect, decency, how to treat fellow citizens and how to be prominent citizens in society. Teaching and training in scripture is essential for proper growth and well being and for salvation. Most of us have influence over a few people, they don’t have to be our children or grandchildren we just need to teach and train effectively for the kingdom those we do have influence over.

Prayer:
Father, thank you for placing me in a Christian home with God fearing parents that taught me the way according to Your word!
