Proverbs 19:2 NKJV
“Desire without knowledge is not good, and whoever makes haste with his feet misses his way.”
Solomon calls out three issues in this proverb; desire, knowledge and haste. Desire covers a wide range of human wants, emotions, and cravings. It can describe natural desires or longings. But desire without knowing all the facts of what we want is reckless, short-sighted, unwise.
If we want something, first, ask is it part of God’s plan for us. Next, is it something we need or just want. Finally, will it further my walk with God, my family life and make me fulfilled. Desire, without the necessary knowledge required, will not take us to our intended goal.
Somon added an element to this, desire or an intense wanting of something without knowledge with reckless abandonment, we will find ourself in the wrong place at the wrong time. Too often we rush into situations without finding out if this is something even necessary. That’s where sin steps in.
Satan wants our human nature to desire, forget about getting understanding and how it will effect us and run to the goal only to find we have been fooled or we have fooled ourselves. If we desire something, we must first seek wisdom, understanding. Never be hasty in decisions.
Prayer:
Lord, John said For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world.” (1John 2:16) Make me wiser to know my flesh is proned to sin.
