The Fall of Man
Genesis 4: 22 AMP
“And the Lord God said, “‘Behold, the man has become like one of Us (Father, Son, Holy Spirit), knowing [how to distinguish between] good and evil; and now, he might stretch out his hand, and take from the tree of life as well, and eat [its fruit], and live [in this fallen, sinful condition] forever”’
The first man and woman had sinned against God. It was not just about eating from the tree that gave knowledge of good and evil, more was at stake. The first man and woman had rebelled against God, listened and reacted to the words of the serpent, and ate from the tree that gave them the knowledge of good and evil.
They previously only new good. God told them all that they needed to know to live a happy fulfilled life. Their eyes were open to good and evil and now they could not go back to only knowing God and His wisdom.
God had to put them out of the garden because in the midst of the garden was a tree of life. If he left them in the garden there was a risk of them eating of the tree of life and living forever in sin and condemnation, and God could not allow that to happen.
God put them out of the garden, Adam had to till the land for food and the woman was to bear in pain through childbirth. This is considered the fall of man until Jesus came (some call Him the second Adam) and brings back the dominion of man.
Jesus brings us right back into a right relationship with God. We all think we have done things different from Adam and Eve but we are as curious as they were. God was merciful to them and abundantly merciful to us..
Thanks be to God, He has provided a way back to a right relationship with Him through His Son.
Prayer:
Father, I assign no blame to Adam and Eve, I’m no better than they were. But I have something that they did not have, Jesus. I thank you for the day I confessed my sins, repented of my sins, accepted Jesus as my Savior and came back to a right relationship with You!
