Exodus 33:14 ESV
“And he said, ‘“My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”’
Israel had wondered only a short time, relatively comparritive to the forty year journey they were going to endure because of their insolence and sin. God delivered them, but they had hard hearts. God showed them miracles and signs, but nothing was ever good enough.
He fed them in the desert where there was no food, but they still complained. He gave them water from a rock but they were not satisfied. He brought them meat from the coast but they still murmured against God.
Their clothes did not wear out on the journey but the did not appreciate Him. He delivered them from kings and Pharoahs but they still rebelled. God still promised Moses that He would lead them and ultimately give them rest if they would just obey Him.
We too often find ourselves in precarious situations often because of our own doing and bad decisions. We cry out to God and He delivers and we pay no homage or sacrifice of praise.
We find ourselves in darkness and peril and He protects us and we believe somehow we found our own way out, but still God draws us to Him. Still He loves us, in despite of our selfish ways.
He is a God of love and mercy that sometimes allows us to experience troubled times to wake us up. When we turn and run back to Him, He is there with open arms to bring us rest and prosperity.
Prayer:
Father, I thank You for being so watchful over me that you always do what is best to bring me home. I may not always understand why things happening around me that trouble my soul but I know You are leading me back to You, where I will find rest.
