James 4:7 ESV
“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
There is an old poem that says: Two nature’s beat within my breast, the one is foul the other blest. The one I love the other I hate. The one I feed will dominate.
Here’s the analogy of this passage and poem: Whoever dominates your time and thoughts is the one who has control of your life. Whether it is pleasure or money or a job or God. Whatever dominates your thoughts and time is your master.
If God is your master, don’t necessarily count the time you spend at church doing things as honor to God. I worked myself silly for years in the church but paid little attention to the things of God. I called it God’s work, but I spent most of my time putting out fires.
Billy Graham told of a time a minister called and asked if Mr. Graham would come see him. The gentleman was on his death bed and he asked if Mr. Graham would lead him in the sinners prayer. The major point of this story was, the gentleman was a famous preacher of a large church in the United States.
I love the church, I love church work but the church is not God but hopefully God is in the church. Working is no substitute for worship, honor and glory to God, and developing a genuine relationship with God. Submit to God Himself! Flee from the devil.
Prayer:
Father, I fix my eyes on You and You only! There is none like You!
