Joshua 6: 2-5 ESV
“And the Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have given Jericho into your hand, with its king and mighty men of valor. You shall march around the city…once. Thus shall you do for six days…On the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. And when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, when you hear the sound of the trumpet, then all the people shall shout with a great shout, and the wall of the city will fall down flat.”

God does things in grand fashion. In the Bible stories He rarely does things the way we would do things, but He is God. Most of the time we want God to do things that make sense to us.

If we were to face a formidable enemy like what the children of Israel were going to face in the promised land, a battle that would take seven years, capturing cities, routing armies, tearing down walls we would think we are not ready or able for the task. But God knows us better than we know ourselves.

The generation Israel that came out of the Egypt came out complaining, already defeated. This new generation of Israel were ready for a sense of home, so they were willing to take the challenge and follow God.

Jericho was the biggest quest, God wanted to show His power and take out the biggest adversary first. All Israel had to do was trust and obey. So, Israel did exactly what God said to do and God took down the walls flat and allowed Israel to fight the battle and win in dramatic fashion.

Prayer:
Father, sometimes the battle looks like more than I can handle. Teach me to go to You and get my marching orders for every battle because through you anything is possible!
