Mark 4: 37,39 ESV
(Portions)
“And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.”
On the sea of Galilee, a storm can cause a great torrent in a matter of minutes. The mountains around one side of the sea form a perfect valley for winds to come down to the sea and cause a catastrophic storm.
In this story, the disciples and Jesus were crossing the sea. One of these violent storms arose and the disciples thought they were going to die. Jesus was asleep and they woke Him up. They ask Jesus if He cared that they were about to perish. Jesus got up, rebuked the wind, and there was a great peace.
Two things come to mind at this story; 1) Does Jesus care when we THINK we are in a devastating storm or bad situation? That answer is ABSOLUTELY! 2) Can Jesus calm us or the mental, physical or spiritual storm in any given situation? Again, that answer is ABSOLUTELY!
He has all authority in heaven and on earth! What Jesus will probably ask us is, will we have faith, will we believe, will we trust Him? If we give every storm into His hands, He will either calm us or He will calm the storm.
Prayer:
Father, I will suffer storms, that is a given, I just pray when I see the devastation coming that I will trust you.
