Jonah 1:1-2 ESV
“Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, “Arise, go to Nineveh, that Great city, and call out against it, for their evil has come up before me.” But Jonah rose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord…”
We all know that it is not possible to escape from the presence of the Lord, but Jonah tried. In the process of him trying to escape from the presence of God, salvation was delayed from an entire city. Blessings and forgiveness was delayed for men, women, boys and girls. A shipping company lost an entire cargo, and the ship suffered insurmountable loss. Men were placed in fear and Jonah was found guilty of disobedience.
When Jonah was given a second chance, God gave him the same command, go to Nineveh. Jonah went to Nineveh and preached what God told him to preach. This huge city put on sackcloth and ashes and repented of their sins. God saved every one of them, and in the process, He spared Israel from attacks from the Ninevites for several decades.
God knows what He is doing and when He tells us to go, it is usually a timing thing. Typically when God is calling me and you to do something, it is not just us He is touching, typically He is working in many lives at one time. So, if He is calling, telling us to do something, we need to be doing it. Otherwise, we are keeping people from receiving what they need from God.
Prayer:
Father, open up my heart and my spirit to hear from You and not delay.
