John 9:4 ESV

“We must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work.”

Jesus is speaking figuratively of the time when we are no longer free or able to be active in ministry.  It could also refer to times of persecution, incapacity due to illness or accidents.  The implication is that we need to make full use of every opportunity while we have it, without letting the risks or dangers involved keep us from doing what God designed for us to do.

Of course we should be prudent, not reckless and we shouldn’t work so incessantly that we wear ourselves out, and bringing on “night” prematurely,. But at the same time, we should not fail to take advantage of opportunities that are immediately in front of us.

Prayer:
Father, use me, do not let me allow the day-time of my life to pass when I can’t work for you any more. Father, show me the way, lead me to the souls that need you!
