True Worshipers
John 4:23-24 ESV
“But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”
Believers participate in specific acts of worship whenever they celebrate God’s worthiness and greatness by giving honor and glory to His name. Worship can be expressed in many ways but the most common are with our words, shouts of praise and adoration, singing, bowing down, raising hands, and possibly playing musical instruments to God.
Paul said true spiritual worship happens when we present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God (Romans 12:1). This means we surrender all that we are to God, completely.
Worship in Greek means “to encounter God and praise Him.” In the Old Testament the Jews encountered God in His temple but when Jesus came, He made a way for us to encounter God anywhere, any time.
In this passage Jesus speaks of worshipping God, but at a level that most people had not done up to this point. Worship had to be all enthralling, complete devotion to God. It had to come from the heart, the individual did not have to adhere to any guidelines except it had to be true worship where we desperately want to worship, purposeful, meaningful worship.
Being in the Lord’s presence should be enough motivation to worship, but face it, we have too many distractions, too many interruptions. Jesus said it had to be heart felt worship and we had to be honest with ourselves about the devotion that we are giving God.
Our lives should be a worship to God. People should see our lives and want to know this Father God.
Prayer:
Lord, this morning I forsake all things to give You devotion. I put away the things that can be taken care of later, because I need to see You in my worship and praise this morning. I need You Lord, my life is complete because of You. You have blessed me, strengthened me, encouraged me, I owe You my all Lord. I surrender my life to You as a living sacrifice. In Your name Lord Jesus, I honor You, Amen!
