Liberty

Psalms 119:45 NIV

“I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts.”

The Psalmist gives us a clew about freedom or liberty in this life. He says that he has sought out, or diligently investigated, God’s commands for his life, or the mandates of how he is to live. In looking intently into these precepts, he has discovered that God’s commands are not restricting, quite the opposite, they are freeing. In the Hebrew this word freedom means, “in a broad place or wide space, at liberty, or freedom, lack of restrictions.” So, the Psalmist has investigated God’s commands, and he did not see oppression, no, in fact he saw freedom, liberty from the hold of sin, fear, worry or oppression. This freedom only comes with deep insight into God’s words.

Prayer:

Lord, give us wisdom, knowledge and understanding in Your words. Give us deep insight into Your words so that we can be at liberty. In Your name, Lord Jesus, we ask, amen.
