Faithfulness
Proverbs 3:3-4 ESV
“Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man.”
Steadfast love is a loyalty to the covenants and promises we make. This kind of love is reflected in the lives of people who remain true to their marriage vows, and pledges to friends and loved ones.
“Faithfulness” is from the Hebrew word emet. The primary meaning is dependability. The term “faithfulness” is used in the Bible to describe the quality of being loyal, trustworthy, and reliable.
Solomon asks his sons to bind steadfast love and faithfulness around their neck or literally let these qualities define who they are. Solomon is asking his sons to etch steadfast love and faithfulness on the tablets of their heart.
In other words let steadfast love and faithfulness guide them in words and deeds. He tells his sons, if they will take these principles, they will find the favor of God, and God will in turn give them favor with mankind.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to be a reflection of Your steadfast love. Let me pledge my love to my wife and children, to my family and my church family and close friends. Teach me to be faithful as You are faithful and unchanging in Your character. In Your name Lord Jesus I ask, Amen!
