John 8: 31-32 ESV
“So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

To abide in Jesus’ words, you allow His words to permeate your entire physiological being. It’s a part of you, it defines you and of course His word is truth and that truth will set you free. It also allows you to know and understand who God is personally to you!
