Isaiah 1:17 ESV
“Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression;
bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause.”
God told Israel, through Isaiah the prophet, that they needed to learn how to do good. That’s not a general statement, He actually knew that they were not doing good things.
People typically feel like they are doing OK, or they feel like they are better than they really are at doing good. He told them to seek justice; If you follow the thread of thought, God is telling Israel to seek justice for other people.
Being judgmental is exactly what is going on in America right now. We, like Israel, do not need to be judgmental. We need to seek justice for everyone with a Godly perspective. Correct oppression; don’t go by the world’s view on oppression.
Israel oppressed the poor, the foreigner, the down and out. Always be fair, give people the benefit of doubt. Bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause. Those who are without an advocate, be that advocate for them. Stand up for those who have no one.
Getting older I see how friends, children and grandchildren do not consider the elderly. We have to be who God says we are to be. Stand up for those who have had a hard time or who are being oppressed. Stand up for the orphan (those who are alone) and the widow and widowers.
Prayer:
Father, you said you would never leave us nor forsake us and You have held to Your word. Now help us to be Your children to reach those who have been downtrodden and oppressed. Teach us to be an advocate for the lonely!
