What’s In My Heart
Proverbs 27:19 ESV
“As in water face reflects face, so the heart of man reflects the man.”
To oversimplify this verse; When we look into the still water, our reflection appears in the water to the exact likeness of our face no matter what we think we look like. In the same manner, our hearts reflect who we are in the real sense of the matter. Who we really are, not a façade, not someone we hope others see of us.
What drives us, what are the inner thoughts that we have that we never share with anyone? Those concepts of our heart reflect who we are. Can that change? Of course!
In Psalms 51:10 David asked God to change his heart after a bitter failure in his life. “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me” (Psalms 51:10). I don’t believe David would have written this down, if it could not happen by God’s power. God did amazing things through David.
Mistakes happen in life and if we choose to stay in those failures, we become those failures. If we choose to change by God’s power, our heart changes, then our lives changes, in that order. It is the progressive work of the Holy Spirit of God in us that keeps us moving higher.
Prayer:
Lord, I pray my heart reflects Your goodness and grace. I pray that my thoughts please You. If my heart is not lining up with all that You want me to be, change my heart, create in me a clean heart and a right spirit. I want to be fully, who You want me to be! In Jesus name, Amen!
