The Power of the Tongue
Proverbs 18:21 ESV
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.”
This verse is telling us that we can kill people with our words, that is true. It is also telling us we can heal, restore, revitalize, encourage and strengthen people with our words.
I abhor cursing. I used to tell guys on the construction jobs; “there are a lot of great words in the English language rather than use the same old curse words over and over again, expand your vocabulary.”
For us Christians, we can find opportunities to bless, heal, restore. People are begging for those words. We have been given the anointing, the power, the honor to lift people up with our words.
The world tears down, we should build up. Give someone hope today, give them words of encouragement, tell them to have a blessed day. Tell them they are doing a great job. Tell them that they are a great person, a great friend. Tell them that You love them, and that You are praying for them.
So, what does the last part of this proverb mean? “…those who love it will eat its fruits.” It means that the people who love to talk, will reap the blessings if they use their words to build. However if they use their words to harm, they will reap what they sow.
I’m not a big talker, it’s not my forte, I love to write. Whether we are or are not people who like to talk a lot, let God speak through us. We will reap what we sow.
Prayer:
Lord, let our words be few, and full of wisdom. Use our words to build up, not tear down. Use our words to heal not to destroy. Lord use our words to give life and hope. In Your name Lord Jesus we ask, Amen!
