Proverbs 3:5 ESV
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
I know I have used this scripture several times featuring different teachings. Today I would like to address our thoughts and actions; Everyone has their own opinion and I respect that, but we have an authority that has set a standard for our lives.
In this world of free thinkers, every thought we have is subject to His authority. Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 10:5, “Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ…”
The Spirit of God in us gives us the ability and judgment to run all our thoughts through Christ first. Which includes the Holy Scriptures that we have as a guide, just in case our discerning spirit is not working properly. Every thought we have may be a right as a person but not every thought originates through God.
So before we judge or before we speak we have the responsibility to run it through Jesus and see if it is backed up in the Word, just in case we may not be listening well.
I have run into too many free thinkers in this world that allows their mouth to run before their brain engages. God help us to be the exception and not the norm.
Prayer:
Father, help me not lean on my own understanding. But in all my ways acknowledge You! Then You will direct my paths.
