Truth
John 16:13 ESV
“When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth, for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak, and He will declare to you the things that are to come.”
Jesus is showing that the Trinity- Father, Son and Holy Spirit are all in perfect harmony with each other. This verse is like what Jesus said about Himself in John 12:49, “For I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent me has himself given me a commandment—what to say and what to speak.” All three of the Trinity always agree. All Three always will say the same things, there is no contradiction in them.
Jesus is telling His disciples that when the Holy Spirit comes, He will manifest the truth in them, they will know the truth, see the truth and understand the truth. Jesus is stating that the full power and authority is in this Trinity, so what the Spirit is telling them is sanctioned by all Three. If someone were to feel that they need to hear the information from God, listen to the Spirit, He is speaking for God. The last part of this verse Jesus says that the Holy Spirit will declare the things to come, and that He does. As it pertains to God’s will, the Holy Spirit will teach, clarify, and manifest the will of God. He did in the first century, and He still speaks of the will of God for us today.
Prayer:
Lord, lead us by Your Spirit to know all that You will for our lives, our families our communities and especially for the church as a whole. In Your name, Lord Jesus, we ask, amen!
