Whom Shall I Fear?

Psalms 27:1 NIV
“The Lord is my light and my salvation-whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life-of whom shall I be afraid?

Things in this life happen and we remember them, the good and the bad. Mostly what sticks out in our mind is the bad that happens, those things make us more aware, more cautious. Self-preservation can be a good thing, but it can also create a fear mentality.

We are born with an innate ability to protect ourselves; we see it in the animal kingdom and we as humans have that ability as well. Some people do not learn self-preservation as well as others.

Self-preservation will protect from harm, danger of life and death and discomforts of life. Mostly this is a survival instinct that we adapt as children, and we build on it as adults.

Self-preservation has to also build on the positive as well. We protect ourselves from sickness, diseases and from cold and heat. We can also gain nutrition, watch our weight, go to the doctor for regular checkups.

For Christians, we seek God, we trust God, we obey God. We walk in integrity, do the right things even when no one is watching us. We build our lives faith driven. We trust God with our lives, health, and well-being.

We do not get caught up in extreme measures, we give God control of our hearts, minds and spirits. We walk in faith and the knowledge that God is right beside us, holding our hand. As David says, “The Lord is the stronghold of my life-of whom shall I be afraid?” That doesn’t mean I am careless, it means I’m cautious, but also secure knowing God is caring for me.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I keep my eyes on You, I trust in You. I go into this day saying, “The Lord is my light and my salvation-whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life-of whom shall I be afraid?” Keep me in the palm of Your hand Lord today! Amen!
