I Will Not Be Shaken
Psalms 16:7-9 ESV
“I bless the Lord who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me. I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure.”
Most of the time when I was young, there was no wise counsel at nighttime going on in my head, as a matter of fact, it was typically chaos. Since I have had a personal relationship with Jesus it has become more manageable. Since I have become closer to the Lord, I can typically quiet the noise in the night hours. As a matter of fact, I spend most of my time in the quiet times of the night praying inside my head, and worshipping in songs to the Lord.
David says, “I have set the Lord always before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.” These are two very vivid statements in one. First David says that He has set the Lord in front of him. That means that David made a conscious choice to think on God, and dwell in God.
The second statement is that he says that because God is at his right hand he will not be shaken. He will not be moved by the power of the enemy to get off track and think on the things that would destroy him or even shake him up. We all have that ability, but how often do we use it?
Then David sets a release by saying, because of his security in having God with him, his heart will rejoice, that is, inside his heart he is screaming with joy. Then he says that his whole being, that is his mind, souls, spirit and body rejoices. That rejoicing and praise shuts the enemy’s mouth. And David ends with saying his body feels the peace and serenity because of his praise and worship.
Prayer:
Lord, You give us wise counsel in the nighttime, but we have to shut all the other voices out. I pray today that You would ever be before us. I pray then we will find peace in the storms of life. I pray then we will not be shaken by what is going on in our lives and our families’ lives. Lord anoint us for praise and worship, singing to the top of our lungs on the inside and sometimes on the outside. Give us peace in the storm today. In Your name Lord Jesus we ask, Amen!
