Like a Father

Psalms 103:9-14 NLT
“He does not punish us for all our sins; He does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve.  For His unfailing love toward those who fear Him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth. He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west. The Lord is like a Father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear Him. For He knows how weak we are; He remembers we are only dust.”

This imagery, that David is writing for us is the perfect image of a Father. David did not know God as a father, knowing God as our Father would come about through Jesus Christ. Through Him we could see God as our Father, our true Father.

But listen to David’s descriptions of our Father:

He does not punish us as we deserve. He does not deal with us harshly. He has unfailing love towards us. He has removed our sins so far apart that they are nonexistent anymore. If only we could forget them that easily.

He is tender. He is compassionate. He remembers we are frail. He remembers we are dust, because he formed Adam from the dust of the earth.

We did not all have great dads in this life, I realize that. Although I had a great dad, he was not always tender growing up and he did deal with us boys as we deserved, but he was still a great dad. But You and I have a great Heavenly Father that is exactly what we need and want for a Father.

Prayer:
Father, thank you for treating me better than I deserve! Thank you for getting rid of my sins and bringing me back home to You. Thank you for your love that never fails, never gives up. In Your name Heavenly Father, Amen!
