A Servants Honor
Proverbs 17:2 AMP
“A wise servant will rule over the [unworthy] son who acts shamefully and brings disgrace [to the family] And [the worthy servant] will share in the inheritance among the brothers.”
This statement warns arrogant sons that their actions still matter—their father is watching. It encourages those who faithfully serve. Loyalty often results in rewards.
An example of this proverb comes from David, Mephibosheth, and Ziba a servant. Mephibosheth was treated like one of David’s own sons. Yet he seemed to turn against David during the rebellion of Absalom (2 Samuel 16:1–4). In response, and for Ziba’s loyalty, David promised Ziba all Mephibosheth’s wealth. Mephibosheth disputed this later, but David was only partly convinced, and split the fortune between the two men (2 Samuel 19:24–29).
Ecclesiastes 10:6-7 ESV says, “Folly is set in many high places, and the rich sit in a low place. I have seen slaves on horses, and princes walking on the ground like slaves.” What is this proverb telling us? Paul said in Romans 12:3, “…I can say to each one of you: don’t think of yourself more highly than you ought to think…”
As children of God, we still need to watch our attitudes. As servants of the Most High God, be faithful, diligent, prudent, wise.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I realize I am not perfect in any way, I need You in me. I need to watch my tongue, attitude, and guard my heart and be faithful to you and the family of God. In Your name Lord Jesus, Amen!
