Romans 12:19 NLT
“Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say, “I will take revenge; I will pay them back,” says the Lord.
One of the greatest stories of God righting a wrong is the story of David, Abigail and Nabal. David and his band of men had come into a valley and there were shepherds there watching the sheep of a rich man named Nabal. David and his men had been running from Saul but they took the time to camp on the hillside and watch and protect the sheep herders and their sheep. It was the right thing to do.
David and his men were running out of food so David sent 10 men to Nabals house to ask for some food and drink. It would have been the right thing to do after all to repay the kindness of David’s protection. But Nabal, who’s name means foolish or senseless, threw David’s men off his property. When the men came back to David and told him what happened,
David was furious and set out to kill Nabal and all his men. Nabal’s wife, Abigail, heard what happened and set out to right the wrong of her husband. Abigail brought David and his men food and wine and spoke kindly to David to ease his temper. Abigail was able to stop David from taking revenge on Nabal. Now Nabal was feasting and drinking heavily. Abigail waited until the next morning.and she told Nabal what David intended to do to him and his men and what she did to right his wrong. When he heard her words he had a heart attack and he died ten days later. In the New King James Version God says, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay says the Lord.” Wait on God, let Him right our wrongs.
Prayer:
Father, revenge has a sting that may feel good for awhile but it is never brings peace. I will wait on You, You do a complete job of righting the wrongs.
