Proverbs 4:26 AMP
“Consider well and watch carefully the path of your feet, And all your ways will be steadfast and sure.”
We tend to walk into situations without a lot of thought, then we are shocked when something bad occurs. Walking purposely in our spiritual life is absolutely necessary because our enemy is always trying to trip us and destroy our credibility.
When I was a boy I spent a lot of time in the woods. Raised in Florida, if you spend a lot of time in nature you watch your footing. I walked up on a lot snakes in the woods, mostly harmless but many were very dangerous. It was natural for me keep my eyes on where I stepped especially if I had to step over a old logs it was a natural spot for a snake.
Solomon in this passage is referring to his son to watch the paths he chooses. We do have an enemy that is seeking to devour so being cautious is not being paranoid, It’s being wise. We’ve seen the dangers, we have experienced the pit falls, now we make sure paths for our feet and for those who will follow us.
There is a phrase that God uses in Habakkuk that I love to use and it applies here; God told Israel they had gotten off course, missed the mark, chose the wrong path. When things are not going as they should, “Consider your ways,” (think about your ways carefully) Habakkuk 1:7
Prayer:
Father, teach me to watch carefully and prayerfully the paths that I choose.
