Casting Away the Cares

Psalms 55:22 ESV
“This friend of mine betrayed me—I who was at peace with him. He broke his promises.  His words were oily smooth, but in his heart was war. His words were sweet, but underneath were daggers.  Give your burdens to the Lord. He will carry them. He will not permit the godly to slip or fall.”

We have all been in this situation where our friends were actually our enemies. They spoke kindly when with us, but behind our backs they breathed bitterness, jealousy, and hatred. We don’t always know when this is going on, and we can’t sequester ourselves away for fear we will be hurt. Doubting friendships divide us, so what do we do?

Cast our burdens on the Lord. Most translations do not say give, instead they say cast. If you have never cast a net on the water, it takes your whole body. You have the net in both hands, with the middle of the net in your mouth. You then twist your body before you throw and push off with your legs as you cast, you get the picture.

Now imagine doing that with our burdens.  Don’t just toss them away, with your entire strength, cast those burdens that you feel away. All the betrayal and pains, get rid of them all. We are not just casting them away we are casting them to the Lord.

Most translations say that He will sustain and uphold us when we cast our burdens to Him. In return, if we obey this command, He will not permit us to slip or fall. He will protect us from the hands of the so-called friends, and He will not allow us to fall prey to the enemy.

God said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay.” Let God have these people that bring trouble, He will do a much better job than we will.

Prayer:
Lord, we cast right now every burden and care to you. In the words of 1 Peter 5:7, we cast every anxiety, worry, or care on You because You care so much for us. In Your name Lord, Amen!
