Ever Present Help
Psalms 46:1-3 ESV
“God is our Refuge and Strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah”
It almost sounds like David is being over dramatic in this verse, but is he? Have we not seen hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes, tornadoes that have destroyed portions of the land and violently disrupted the seas? David says, in these times we will not fear, because God is our refuge and strength.
I know a lot of people that fear these disasters, and we should take measures to protect our homes and families, that is just being wise. If we have completed every measure to protect ourselves, then we need to trust in God for the outcome. But we have other troubles, especially here in America. We are a divided country and not just in politics.
We are divided in values, morals, and standards. What one person sees as a major concern in America, their neighbor believes the opposite. There is no clear definition of right and wrong in America. So, what is the answer? Stick to God’s standards as defined in His word. Stay close to Him and His values, morals, and standards, that is the only right way. If it does not line up with His word, it is not a part of our cause, what we stand for.
God is our Refuge and Strength, a VERY PRESENT HELP in times of trouble.
Prayer:
Lord, we trust in You. We have no one but You, protect us and keep us, be our Refuge and Strength in times of trouble and unrest. Help us to look beyond the evening news and look to what You say is right and wrong, what are Your values, morals, and standards. You have the most important words, and You are the final authority. In Your name Lord, Amen!
