Making the Right Choice

Romans 8:5 ESV
“For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.”

Everyone in the world has one of two mindsets, their minds are either controlled by their flesh, their carnal nature, or they are led by the Spirit of God in everything they do. Paul tells us, those who are “according to the flesh” are those who are “in the flesh.”

They are governed by their flesh. The “flesh” refers to their carnal appetites, sinful desires, worldly pursuits, material pleasures, secular beliefs, self-interest, and self-promotion. Their whole life revolves around living for the things of this world. Those who are led by the Spirit of God, their minds are being renewed everyday.

The things of this life do not bog them down, because they choose not to worry, or focus on their problems. Their minds, being set on the Spirit, gets them through because Jesus lets them know what is important and what is not. They can take whatever life throws at them because they have Him and all the fullness of His life.

Prayer:
Father, the choice is clear, follow the dictates of the flesh with all its worries, fears and failures and fail at life or, follow the Spirit where there is real life and peace, contentment and true joy! I choose to follow the Spirit’s leading!
