Hope
John 16:16,33 ESV
“A little while, and you will see Me no longer; and again a little while, and you will see Me.” I have said these things to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
The disciples did not clearly understand that Jesus was leaving to go to the Father in heaven. They thought He was about to set up His kingdom on earth and overthrow the Roman domination. Jesus was clear with them of His intentions, but they could not comprehend what He was saying.
So, in this case, He told them exactly what they needed to hear, and it is the same thing most people want to hear; “…in Me (Jesus) you may have peace.” The words, “you may have,” shows that we have a choice. Follow Jesus and have pure peace, or follow the world and have tribulation and trouble, it is a choice.
Jesus told them that they were going to face troubles, that was evident, but if they remain in Jesus they would have the peace that will get them through. The message should be clear to us as well, we know that this world is out of control, people say and do whatever they feel.
Governments do not protect all the people, just who they care about. So, what do we do? We remain in Jesus, He will bring peace, He will guide us and show us a way, He will bless and prosper us, if we remain in Him. God’s true children will be blessed and at peace, if we abide in Him.
Prayer:
Lord, our trust is in You. You are our everything, You are the One that has the words of eternal life, You are the One who has all the power, You are the One who has the authority and will save us from the enemy. We remain in You! In Your name Lord, Amen!
