Unity
Psalms 133:1 ESV
“Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!”
In the title of this Psalm, it says that this Psalm is a song of ascent. That means this song could be sung as the families or perhaps David’s family and friends were heading up to Jerusalem to the Temple. These were good times to be in harmony with one another.
I remember going to church as a child and the whole family was piled up in the car. This was before there were SUVs with three bench seats. All we had was a big car with two bench seats and 7 people inside, not fun. My oldest brother was on his motorcycle, I bet he was joyful.
There was no singing and harmonizing or harmony for that matter. It seems that the greatest theme of going to church together as a family was shutting our mouths and keeping our hands to ourselves.
I can imagine David and his family, servants and friends walking to the temple singing, probably harmonizing and praising God. There is nothing like the feeling of being in God’s presence and enjoying good times together.
We do not always have to agree with one another, sometimes we can agree to disagree. But unity should never be broken because there is strength in unity, power in unity and comfort in unity.
Today, be unified with family, friends and coworkers even if some of them rub you the wrong way. Make them believe that they cannot get under your skin. Smile at them and make them wonder what you are up to, but most of all let them see Jesus in you.
Prayer:
Lord, give me a heart to try and understand the people that I will encounter today. Everyone is dealing with something and not everyone can be kind while they are going through the things that they are going through. Let me be the bigger person, let me show grace, let me be friendly, let me be Jesus to those who I see today. In Your name Lord Jesus, Amen!
