Paths to Follow
Isaiah 48:17 NLT
“This is what the Lord says—your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is good for you and leads you along the paths you should follow.”
Do we want to know what is good for us? Do we want to know what will not just sustain us, but bring us to running over blessings? I hope so!
I may think the route I have chosen is right, but what does God say? I may think that I’m smart enough, savvy enough to know what to do, but what does God say? He sees all, He knows all, and He knows the future. His ways are not our ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts.
Psalms 81: 13-16 in the New Living Bible says; “Oh, that my people would listen to me! Oh, that Israel would follow me, walking in my paths! How quickly I would then subdue their enemies! How soon my hands would be upon their foes! Those who hate the Lord would cringe before him; they would be doomed forever. But I would feed you with the finest wheat. I would satisfy you with wild honey from the rock.”
Let me make this real; following God is good for us, it is profitable in all sense of the word! It is so good that when we do follow God’s path, God goes to work and thwarts the plans of the enemy and feeds us lavishly.
The example at the end of this Psalm reminds me of one of my favorite restaurants. They bring out these fresh hot rolls and this honey butter, and when you put a slather of that butter on those hot rolls and put it in your mouth, oh my, that is heaven. That’s how good God’s ways are for us.
Prayer:
Lord, lead us, feed us, show us what to do and where to go. I choose Your ways not my own selfish ways. When I give up my will, Your will be done in me. In Your name Lord, Amen!
