Proverbs 3:5 ESV
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.”
I refer to this verse many times because I have to keep telling myself that even though I think that I am analytical, I will break down situations and things to see what makes them tick, my thoughts will deceive me.
My understanding of all that I see in the world is like looking through a keyhole in an old lock. I can only see a limited number of things through that keyhole.
God sees the big picture. He sees what is in front of me, what lies ahead, and He sees the future. He knows the past, but He does not dwell on the past or even reference the past as I do. He sees three hundred and sixty degrees when I see with limited vision and insight.
So, to trust in God, and not my own understanding, I can see the scope of what God wants me to see, what He wants me to know, what He wants me to watch out for.
To lean on Him, to trust Him, to rely on Him is to understand more clearly the things that are ahead of me, the things that I am facing and will face today. I am limited, He is all seeing, all knowing, all powerful.
Prayer:
Lord, I pray this morning that I will lean on You today, trust in You, listen to You, and rely on You, because you want what is best for me. In Your name Lord Jesus, Amen!
