I Will Give You Rest
Matthew 11:27-28 ESV
“All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Jesus is professing openly of His relationship with the Father, it is a father-Son relationship. Therefore, everything that is the Father’s is found in the Son, and everything that is of the Son is found in the Father. To know God, is to know Jesus, and the same, to know Jesus is to know the Father, if Jesus has revealed the Father to you. The Pharisees could not see Jesus as Messiah and the Son of God, because they really did not know the Father intimately.
When we really know Jesus intimately, we know the Father because Jesus reveals the true nature and character of who God is. Why is this important? Because it is not just head knowledge of who God is and who Jesus is. It is a divine revelation into all things when we know the Father and the Son intimately.
At that time everything is available and everything is accessible in knowing the true nature and character of God. Everything we need, everything we desire, every God given dream is fulfilled in this deep knowledge of who God is.
Jesus then told the crowd to come to me all who have been burdened down with all the religious chaos and rituals. With everything that people have laid on your backs and He will give you rest because God is not in that stuff. God is ALL about the relationship with His children. Furthermore, in that relationship, God will give you and I peace, rest, and fulfillment that we so desperately need.
Prayer:
Lord, I can hear you calling this morning, “come to me, all who labor (or struggling with anything) and are heavy laden (with burdens you did not pick up on your own, but they were placed on you by another) and I will give you rest. In Your name Lord, Amen!
