Good Foundation
Luke 6:47-48 ESV
“Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.”
I was told by my mother that everyday I needed to read a devotion in the Bible and pray. We did this every morning as a family growing up, there were no exception to this rule.
I understood the Bible stories that we all heard in Sunday School, but just reading the Word and understanding was not a concept that I had as a teenager. It was not until I turned nineteen and moved away from home that the Word was meaningful and clear.
I went from the King James version to the New International version, but even that was still just reading for information. One evening I sat alone to do my devotion and I opened my Bible and began to read. The story was about Lazarus, but something happened that evening that changed my life. Dramatically the words seem to leap off the page and I had clarity.
I went from reading the Word for information and I began to read for revelation and transformation. It was a divine experience for me that changed my life forever. It is like the man who built his house on a solid foundation, that foundation is God’s words.
Prayer:
Lord, we look to You, open our eyes Lord, we want to see Jesus, to reach out and touch Him, and the way we will do that is by reading Your words, and putting those words into practice in our life. In Your name Lord, Amen!
