Grace and Truth

John 1:14 ESV
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

Grace is God’s unmerited favor toward the unworthy. Grace is God’s benevolence on the undeserving. Grace is a free gift; we did not deserve it, but because of God’s great love for us it was given to us even when we were destitute and unworthy.

The gift of grace was free to us, but it was not free to our giver, God the Father, and this extravagant gift came at a great cost for our Lord Jesus, who died in our place. Grace is not just an act of kindness, it involves reconciliation, forgiveness and as a reward to the recipient, eternal life.

Truth is embodied in our Lord Jesus Christ. He is the Word and He is the truth. In His presence, all that is false is revealed, not as a condemnation, but as a pure light it draws us back to Him forever.

Of course, this pure light always reveals the schemes of the enemy because all that embodies our enemy is darkness and falsehood. Therefore, Jesus prayed, “Sanctify them by the truth, Your Word is truth.” (John 17:17) Truth is not something we act upon; it acts upon us.

Grace made our relationship with God attainable. The truth that we received in us at spiritual birth is undeniable, it is life, hope, health, healing, restoration and peace. To receive Jesus is to receive all that He embodies to come into our lives and make an extraordinary change for the better. No wonder it is called rebirth.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your sacrifice, thank You for grace. We did not deserve grace, but You gave it to us freely even while we were still lost sinners without You. When we received You as Lord and Savior, Your truth came into us and started to clean house. We may not be perfect but every day we watch Your truth change us from the inside out. Thank You for redemption and reconciliation. In Your name Lord Jesus, Amen!
