Letting the Spirit Have His Way
Romans 8:26 ESV
“Likewise, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.”
I think we have all experienced these times when the Holy Spirit comes along side of us, when we just do not know exactly how to pray for a situation or a cause. I see it like this; The Holy Spirit is the third person in the Trinity, but He typically doesn’t get the recognition for all that He does.
He is the driving force in every aspect of our lives to give us the help and strength that we need. In prayer, He is giving us words, but often we get in the way. He knows the heart of God and He knows us intricately and He knows how we should pray. When we are overwhelmed, he comes along beside us and intercedes.
Praying is a communication, or conversation with God. So, in a standard conversation one talks, the other listens, then the other talks and the first person that started speaking listens. With God, is it any different?
We come to God with praise (most important) then we start asking. If it stops there, that was a dialog not a conversation. To make it a conversation, we pray and listen, pray, and listen.
The best part of this conversation with God is when the Holy Spirit gets involved. At that point the conversation becomes real and things get done and said and resolved. Thank You Holy Spirit!
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, you can take over my prayers, my conversations, and my preaching and teaching any time You want to, You take the lead! In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen!
