Jesus Paid it All
Romans 3:23-25a ESV
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith.”
We can never measure up to God’s righteous requirements on our own. We can never be good enough, try to obey every law or live up to every standard on our own. But we can rely on grace, such a precious yet powerful gift of God. It is so powerful that it washed away every sin ever committed when we confess and believe.
Redemption is the act of buying something back or paying a price or ransom. In our case God paid the ransom through His Son Jesus and bought us back from sins bondage. Jesus, as our Propitiation is an appeasement or satisfaction payment, specifically toward God, much like the mercy seat in the Old Testament found in the Holy of Holies.
That brings to my thoughts an old song, “Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe. Sin hath left its crimson stain, but He washed me white as snow.” We cannot boast of any of our works or any of our goodness. And when we get to heaven, it isn’t going to be a big bragging session and we all get around and tell of all the marvelous things we did for God on the earth. Instead, it will be a time of great rejoicing for God’s mercy, His grace, His Redemption and His Propitiation that was lavished on us by His love and His Son.
Prayer:
Lord, I owe You everything, my praise, my song, my rejoicing, my life! In Your name Lamb of God, Amen!
