1 John 2:15 ESV
“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”
John draws a line in the sand for all believers. This world is just a temporary dwelling place for us. Yes, we are here for a purpose, a plan of the Father. Yes, we belong in God’s presence and we one day will be with Him forever. But for now, we have to fulfill our mission for God.
John says we are not to love this world (meaning the sinful things of this world) the carnal things of this world, the things that are as John calls them, the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life. The lust of the eyes are the things that we see that we want even if it is not what we need. The lust of the flesh are the things that please our fleshly desires, things that are not in the confines of God’s provision, things that we covet. The pride of life says look what I did on my own. We desire to be our own provider, basically our own God.
So when John says, “…If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” Loving the things of this world seperates us from God. Don’t love the things of this world, love people enough to give them Jesus. Love the Father enough to fulfill His plan for our lives.
Prayer:
Father, this world only has temporary pleasures that lead to sin. I love You Father, and my desire is to please You, and to one day be with You forever.
