Divine Intervention

Genesis 37:18, 22-28
“They saw him (Joseph) from afar, and before he came near to them they conspired against him to kill him.  And Reuben said to them, “Shed no blood; throw him into this pit here in the wilderness, but do not lay a hand on him”… So when Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped him of his robe, the robe of many colors that he wore. And they took him and threw him into a pit. The pit was empty; there was no water in it.

Then they sat down to eat. And looking up they saw a caravan of Ishmaelites coming from Gilead, with their camels bearing gum, balm, and myrrh, on their way to carry it down to Egypt. Then Judah said to his brothers, “What profit is it if we kill our brother and conceal his blood? Come, let us sell him to the Ishmaelites…Then Midianite traders passed by. And they drew Joseph up and lifted him out of the pit, and sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty shekels of silver. They took Joseph to Egypt.”

Joseph’s brothers meant to kill Joseph, God intervened, and his brothers sold him to the Ishmaelites. We may not see this as an intervention, but Joseph had to get to Egypt one way or another to fulfill his destiny.

We see that Joseph suffered at the hands of men for thirteen years before his dreams were fulfilled and we may not see this as an intervention, but God was setting up the greatest comeback story of all times in Joseph.

The thirteen years that Joseph spent in slavery-built character in Jospeh. He did his best in every situation, but it all seemed to backfire, still he persevered, he still did his best despite the circumstances.

With every trial we face, every trouble we go through, if someone were writing about our story, what would they see. Someone who was disgruntled, bitter, had a chip on their shoulder? Or would they see that we did our best, we kept pressing on, we still believed despite our circumstances?

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, despite what we go through, help us to build our character through every trial and trouble. Help us to have a positive attitude, forgive the wrongs, and keep pressing on knowing You have a perfect plan for our life. In Your name Lord Jesus I ask, Amen!
