Debt Canceled

Colossians 2:13-15 ESV
“When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh (when we were worldly without God), God made you alive with Christ (brought us back from spiritual death to a new life in Jesus).

He forgave us all our sins, having cancelled the charge of our legal indebtedness (He cancelled everything that we owed for our trespasses against Him), which stood against us and condemned us; He has taken it away, nailing it to the cross (God took that bill of dept and nailed it to the cross of Christ). 

And having disarmed the powers and authorities (every evil power and all the host of satan’s forces), He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

When we were spiritually dead in our sins, God made us alive through Jesus His Son. As though there was a legal document of debt against us, Jesus came in, snatched the document out of satan’s hands and nailed that document to the cross where he shed His blood for all mankind. Stamped on the document in blood red I believe it said, “Debt Paid In Full.”

When we confessed our sins and proclaimed Jesus as our Savior and Lord, the debt was cancelled, never to be brought up again. Satan may try to make us feel guilty and make us feel like we still need to pay for our sins, but he is a liar.

To take the matter a step further, Jesus disarmed the rulers and authorities of darkness and made a public example of them. They don’t like it, but the facts are undeniable. We win through Jesus, our foe is powerless over us. Guilt, shame, disgrace is all gone, if the enemy tells us otherwise, we call him a liar and the father of all lies.

Prayer:
Thank you Lord for taking our guilt, shame and indebtedness and nailing it to the cross. When You died on the cross, our debt was cancelled, for that we are eternally greatful. Any guilt or shame that we may sense now is from the father of lies and we refuse to play his game. Thank You Lord, AMEN!
