A Doer
James 1: 25 ESV
“But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.”
James has sent a letter to the Jewish Christians that has been dispersed throughout the province. It’s not a feel-good letter; It’s more like a correction letter. What is James correcting in these people? Their attitudes and their Christian characteristics. In this verse he is telling them that as they live by grace and not trying to obey all the laws of the Old Testament, which is impossible to do on their own, instead live in grace provided through Jesus Christ at Calvary. When we rely on grace, Jesus will lead us to obey the laws of God. James tells this group that as they look into the law of grace, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and not forget what they have been taught but live according to what they have heard and read, they will be blessed.
In reference to us today, w need to stop trying to be good enough on our own, but instead depend on Jesus and His grace. As we hear the words of God and we read the words of God, do what the word tells us to do. Do not read it or hear and go away and forget what the word has told us. Do, or act out what the word tells us to do. Live in His will, walk in His way, tell others what Jesus has done for us, give others hope in Jesus Christ. Share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, not in just the ways that are comfortable for us, but also in ways that may be out of our comfort zone.
Prayer:
Lord, don’t let me be a forgetful hearer of Your words, but also be one that does what Your words have told me to do. help me to spread the Gospel by whatever means that I have, vocally or by written words in text, messaging, email, social media and any other method. Help me to step out of my comfort zone and offer the Gospel to anyone who will receive. Use my words and my voice. In Your name Lord Jesus, kindle the fire inside of me. In Your name, Lord Jesus, Amen!
