Agonizing or Listening

Psalms 37:7 AMP
“Be still before the Lord; wait patiently for Him and entrust yourself to Him; Do not fret (whine, agonize) because of him who prospers in his way…”

A Christian family was on a late-summer hike along the Appalachian Trail, going up and down through the woods. They were treading carefully over the rocks and chatting the whole time but enjoying each other’s company. One of the family members was a thoughtful middle school teacher and he asked, “Can we be silent for a while, spread out a bit, and just walk.”

They all thought it was a good idea. They spread out along the trail but stayed close enough so that each could see each other through the trees, and they hiked in silence. It made a huge difference as they all enjoyed a bit of solitude and the sights of nature. It made them appreciate God’s handy work.

They all learned something that day, God’s creation was speaking loud and clear. They just needed to be silent for a while to listen and enjoy His presence.

Being still is not in most of our DNA’s,. Nor is being patient, a strange concept in this fast paced, microwave society, we want everything instantly. Anxiety and stress are common words used in most people’s lives.

But David in his old age wrote, “Be still before the Lord; wait patiently for Him and entrust yourself to Him; Do not fret (whine, agonize) because of him who prospers in his way…”. I think David learned this from contemplating his past life.

Listen to David’s wisdom, he came to a place in his life where things could slow down a bit and he finally took his own advice. Stop worrying, be still and listen, God is speaking.

Prayer:
Lord, I know I’m not going to miss anything vital or important if I slow down long enough to hear from you every day, so help me to do just that! In Your name Lord, Amen
