Truly Knowing Jesus
Matthew 7:21 ESV
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.”
This warning of Jesus applies to people who say “Lord, Lord,” and yet their spiritual life has nothing to do with their daily life. Jesus declares that not everyone who refers to Him as “Lord” will enter the kingdom of heaven. In prior teachings, Jesus indicated that mere words and actions are not enough, they must be motivated by sincerity, truth, commitment, faith, and true love in all of pur motivations.
Jesus said just calling Him Lord and not having a relationship with Him will not guarantee entrance into the Kingdom of God. Entrance to the kingdom of heaven is limited to those who truly, fully do the will of His Father in heaven. That starts with sincere faith in Christ and extends to how we live our lives.
Forgiveness is for everyone, but mankind has to believe, trust and obey the will of God. They have to have a close personal relationship with Him to enter into His Kingdom to live forever. Of course, to those who truly know Jesus, know what He wants of us and we gladly do His will. We know beyond the shadow of a doubt, we will be with Him forever.
Prayer:
Search our hearts Lord. See where our true commitment lies. Are we trusting, believing in You and what You have said? Are we seeking a relationship with You daily and obeying You? Are we walking and talking with You like we would our best friend? Search our hearts Lord, in Your name, Amen!
