Looking Forward, Not Backwards
Job 42: 10,16-17 ESV
“And the Lord restored the fortunes of Job, when he had prayed for his friends. And the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before. And after this Job lived 140 years, and saw his sons, and his sons’ sons, four generations. And Job died, an old man, and full of days.”
Too often, what we remember most in our lives, the times when things set us back, sidelined us, stopped us in our tracks. We may have gone through a decline in our health, lost a loved one, or possibly went through a break up in a relationship. Each person handles adversity differently, non of us hand problems and heartbreaks the same way. For me to say that I know how you feel would be wrong, no one knows how you feel.
Job suffered a lot of loss. Through his 9 month ordeal, he felt like he was wronged and unjustly suffered great loss. But at the end of his story, we see what God did for Job.
Job received twice as much income, twice the blessings of family and friends and he lived 140 years and saw his children through four generations. At the end of this passage, it says Job was full of days. In other words he lived a good life for 140 years.
See on the other side of all the setbacks that we have had, blessings, peace and prosperity. Step back from the hurts, regroup, give it all to God and watch Him work. We don’t have to imagine what God is going to do for us, we just have to be open and receptive and receive. He will do things in our life that will astound us, if we let Him.
Prayer:
Father, this life has been hard on so many, but we are not done yet. We believe that the next year’s to come could be our greatest. With You, it is never too late. You gave Job abundance before his testing and double the abundance after his testing. I believe You can, and will do the same for us, if we will let go of the hurts, the pain, and trust You! AMEN!
