The Kingdom of Heaven
Matthew 13:44 ESV
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.’
This symbolism by Jesus on the Kingdom of Heaven may seem to be obscure but let me explain. To the world, the Kingdom of Heaven means nothing. They do not believe in God and they do not believe in the after life as well.
Being a part the Kingdom of God here on earth and after death going and living with God in His kingdom makes no sense to them, it holds no relevance to them. So that hidden treasure remains hidden. We believe in God and all He has for us in this life and the life to come.
We know we can enjoy His benefits here on earth and we know we will live with Him forever after death. So the symbolism of this story is only relevant to the believer. We find the great treasure, not a treasure that can just be picked up and taken with us so to speak, but a treasure that has to be obtained in its completeness.
The Kingdom of Heaven to us is a treasure to be lived out daily. When we accepted Jesus Christ, He gave us all the benefits of the kingdom. So, upon acceptance of Jesus in our heart and life, we surrender everything to Him, or in a crude manner of speaking, we bought into Him completely. So in this story, the man stumbled on a great treasure and realized the whole field contained this treasure so he went and bought the field so he could draw from its wealth forever.
Prayer:
Lord, I surrender all to You, I want all the benefits, not just a few, so I give everything up to You so I can be a lifelong benefactor and one day live with You forever.
