Keeping Our Eyes On Jesus

Hebrews 12:2-3 NIV
“Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”

The Message paraphrase says this about verse two and three.

“Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how He did it. Because He never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—He could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now He’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!”

I don’t think I could put it any better than that. What we have to endure is nothing compared to what He endured.

My Father was a great father and a great man of God, but dad was not a teacher. I asked him in my teens to explain to me what he was doing on a construction job one day, He said, just watch me, so I did. If we want to know how to navigate this life without bellyaching, watch Jesus from beginning to the end, we will get it, and find our way.

Prayer:
Lord, You did it and You did it the right way. Without rebuke or arguing or complaining, You walked this earth, taught us all who God really was, a loving God, and then You laid down Your life for billions of people who can’t make it through a single day without complaining about something. Lord, help us to just watch You. In Your name Lord, Amen!
