God Lifts Us Up
Psalms 3:3 ESV
“But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.”
In verse I ne of this Psalm, David tells God that He has a lot of enemies. That is when David had his eyes on the circumstance and not on the Creator of all things. In verse three, David gets his eyes off the circumstances and back on God. Then he says that God is a shield around him. When God is the shield around him, David got his eyes off the circumstances and onto God. Then David says that God is his glory. This is David’s honor of God, his dignity, his hope, and salvation. David said that God was the lifter of his head. If you have read much of David’s words in the Psalms and in 1 and 2 Samuel, you will know David got angry, he got down, maybe even depressed at times. Who was God in all of these emotions? He was the glory and the lifter of David’s head. It was as though David had sighed and bent his head down in shame, and God lifted David’s head with His hand. God does that for us as well, because God doesn’t was to be despondent or down, He wants to be our glory and the lifter of our head.
Prayer:
Lord, You know this life is tough; it has its ups and downs. Today we proclaim together that You are a shield around us and You are our glory and the one who lifts our heads. In Your Righteous name, Lord Jesus, we pray, Amen!
